OVERVIEW

Being selected as one of several vendors is a starting point. Becoming the primary partner, the one responsible for all aspects of a mission-critical operation, is an entirely different achievement. That’s exactly what Protingent accomplished in our engagement with a Fortune 100 client building a state-of-the-art AI Research and Development cloud lab. What began as a competitive multi-vendor environment ended with Protingent holding full operational responsibility for one of the most advanced R&D environments in the country.

THE CHALLENGE

Building an AI R&D cloud lab from the ground up is a massive undertaking. It requires not just engineers, but the right engineers. These are people who can design, build, and operate complex cloud infrastructure in a research environment where the work is at the forefront of artificial intelligence. The client launched the initiative with multiple staffing vendors competing for placements, and the expectation was clear: perform or be replaced.

Beyond the recruiting challenge, the client needed a partner who could do more than fill roles. As the lab grew, they needed operational support. They needed someone who could help create internal procedures, manage budgeting, and take ownership of the workforce they were building. That’s an unusual ask for a staffing firm. For Protingent, it was an opportunity.

THE SOLUTION

Protingent didn’t just compete in the initial vendor pool. We outperformed. Our technical recruiting expertise allowed us to identify and place the specialized AI and cloud engineering talent the client needed faster and with higher quality than our competitors. As our performance distinguished us from the field, the client began consolidating more of the lab’s staffing and operational needs with Protingent.

Over time, our role expanded dramatically. Protingent took on responsibility for:

• Recruiting and onboarding all lab engineering talent
• Creating internal procedures and operational frameworks for lab management
• Supporting lab budgeting and workforce planning
• Managing a growing team of more than 60 engineers on an ongoing basis

THE RESULTS

Protingent is now the primary partner for all aspects of the lab’s success. We went from being one of multiple competing vendors to being the single firm responsible for recruiting, managing, and operationally supporting one of the most sophisticated AI R&D environments in the Fortune 100. That progression didn’t happen by accident. It happened because we consistently delivered, expanded our scope when asked, and treated our client’s success as our own.

This engagement represents the highest expression of what a staffing partnership can become: not just a source of talent, but a true operational partner invested in the long-term success of the work being done.
